About NDPP

The Information Is There. The Answers Aren’t Always.

Organisations rarely start with nothing.

There may already be data, experience, research, previous findings, operational evidence or a proposed opportunity.

People may know that something isn’t working.

They may know quite a lot about why.

Or they may be approaching an important decision and need greater confidence in what the evidence actually supports.

Seeing isn’t the same as understanding.

And understanding matters because the quality of the explanation affects the quality of the decisions that follow.

That is the thinking behind NDPP.

Better Explanations Create Better Decisions.

NDPP is an organisational and systems advisory practice founded by Carla Bowley.

We help organisations establish or apply sufficient understanding to make better-informed decisions about what is worth changing, developing or investing in, and what that needs to achieve.

Sometimes that means building a clearer understanding of something that isn’t sufficiently understood.

Sometimes the evidence already exists and the work is to turn that understanding into requirements, priorities and decisions.

Sometimes the useful questions come earlier, before an organisation commits further time, money or capacity to a proposed product, service, system or change.

The work starts with what is already known, not with a predetermined NDPP solution.

Why NDPP Was Founded

NDPP was founded by Carla Bowley, whose work developed through years spent alongside organisations, professionals, families and services dealing with complexity, neurodivergence, inclusion, systems and the realities of everyday work.

Again and again, an important distinction became visible:

What appears to be the problem isn’t necessarily enough to explain what is creating it.

A process can be completed while requiring considerable effort behind the scenes.

Training can have taken place while difficulty remains.

A system can work technically while the expected improvement doesn’t follow.

Different people can experience the same environment very differently.

And organisations can have a great deal of information without yet having the explanation they need for the decision in front of them.

That thinking became NDPP.

Not a practice built around one explanation.

A practice built around understanding the situation well enough to make a better decision about what happens next.

Start With What Is Known.

NDPP doesn’t need to own the evidence for it to be useful.

We can work with organisational experience, operational evidence, research, user insight, previous findings, implementation evidence and professional judgement.

The first questions are simpler:

What is happening?
What is already understood?
What evidence supports that understanding?
What remains uncertain?
What decision needs to be made?

Then:

Is there sufficient understanding to make that decision well?

If not, NDPP can help establish what still needs to be understood.

If there is, we work from what is already known.

Look at the Conditions, Not Just the Outcome.

Work can reach its intended outcome while asking more of people than the outcome reveals.

Technology can function while expected capacity doesn’t appear.

A change can be delivered while the original condition remains.

People can compensate so effectively that the effort required to keep things working becomes difficult to see from a distance.

NDPP looks beyond whether something got done to understand the conditions in which it got done.

Where is unnecessary effort being created?

What are people having to remember, interpret, coordinate or compensate for?

What has become easier?

What hasn’t?

And where has work disappeared, reduced — or moved?

The answers aren’t predetermined.

The evidence determines what becomes worth changing.

From Understanding to What Happens Next

Understanding is useful when it improves the decisions that follow.

Once there is sufficient understanding, NDPP can help translate it into:

what needs to change
what that change needs to achieve
requirements and priorities
decision criteria and design principles
implementation advice and review

NDPP can work alongside internal teams, suppliers and specialists as change develops.

We don’t need to build, engineer or technically configure the eventual solution.

Our role is to help keep what gets decided and implemented connected to the evidence that made the change worth considering in the first place.

About Carla Bowley

Founder, NDPP

Carla Bowley founded NDPP to bring a more disciplined question to organisational problems and decisions:

Do we understand this well enough to know what should happen next?

Her work brings together organisational and systems understanding, evidence and evaluation, strategic advice and decision support, drawing together evidence from different sources, challenging assumptions and translating understanding into practical requirements, priorities and decisions.

Her background in neurodivergence and inclusion continues to inform Neurodiversity at Work and the development of Designing for Different Minds, while NDPP itself works across a much broader range of organisational, system, product, service and change questions.

The common principle is simple:

Understand before deciding what should happen next.

OUR MISSION

Understanding Comes Before Change.

NDPP exists to help organisations understand what is really creating the work they are already paying for before deciding what to change.

Across education, digital platforms, AI-supported environments and organisational systems, organisations often experience the same pattern.

They invest.

They improve.

They measure.

Yet work still feels harder than it should.

Rather than beginning with solutions, NDPP begins with understanding.

Understanding the conditions shaping people’s experience.

Understanding why the same operational patterns keep returning.

Understanding what work the organisation is paying for that it never intended to pay for.

Because better explanations lead to better decisions.

And better decisions create better outcomes.

Recognition before explanation.

We begin with what organisations are already experiencing.

Not frameworks.

Not theory.

Not services.

People recognise their own situation before they understand NDPP’s explanation.

Understand before recommending.

We don’t begin by suggesting more training, more communication or more process.

We first seek to understand what is making those actions necessary.

Because improving conditions is usually more valuable than increasing effort.

Look beyond the visible problem.

Visible problems are important.

They are rarely the whole story.

NDPP investigates the conditions producing recurring patterns, not just the outcomes those patterns create.

Information answers what.

Understanding answers why.

Improve Conditions, Not People.

People often work remarkably hard to keep organisations functioning.

NDPP focuses on understanding what the system is asking people to do before asking people to do more.

Because sustainable organisations improve conditions rather than increasing human effort.

Design For Different Minds.

The same experience is rarely experienced the same way.

Different experiences reveal different things about products, platforms, learning environments and organisational systems.

NDPP designs for participation, confidence and clarity across a wide range of human experiences.

Better Explanations Create Better Decisions.

Everything NDPP does is driven by one belief.

Organisations make better decisions when they better understand what they are experiencing.

That understanding shapes where they invest.

What they redesign.

And what they choose to leave alone.

One belief sits underneath every piece of NDPP’s work.

Complexity never disappears.

Systems always distribute it somewhere.

NDPP helps organisations understand where it has gone before deciding what to change.
